The story of the black bricks line in the church building:

The story began when Sir George Vitaly arrived with his wife to Bazzak  in 1855 for priest Joseph’s blessings. George had no children after ten years marriage. The couple went straight to meet priest Joseph who was holding  a mass in Shama Church. The priest listened to the couple’s problem and brayed for them. Before the couple back to Lattakia, Georges Vitaly declared this vow to priest Joseph:

“I will build a church beside your house if the Lord answers your brayers dear  priest. I will fulfil my promise when my wife has conception.” Soon after that, the wife eventually had conception. The church building construction got started. It was given the name of  St.   church photo

Georges church after the name of saint George.  During a certain stage of the church construction, the baby died. The construction works discontinued. A black rocky bricks were used to build the last line of  the walls as it is still seen so far.  George’s wife was pregnant in this while.  “If I get a male child, I will resume building” said Georges. The wife gave birth. The work was done soon as Georges promised and a new orthodox church was there. In 1907, priest Joseph’s body had been buried inside the church were it was basically prepared.
